This project demonstrates a convolutional neural network in TensorFlow for classifying German traffic signs with high accuracy.

This project details an approach to classifying traffic signs using a convolutional neural network (CNN) implemented in TensorFlow, achieving 99.33% accuracy on the German Traffic Sign Dataset. The solution emphasizes data preprocessing techniques like localized histogram equalization and converting images to grayscale. It also heavily relies on data augmentation strategies, including various forms of image flipping, rotation, and projective transformations, to address dataset imbalance and increase training examples. The model architecture is a deep neural network classifier with three convolutional layers for feature extraction and one fully connected layer for classification. It incorporates multi-scale features, where outputs from convolutional layers are branched off and fed into the classifier after additional max-pooling. Regularization techniques such as dropout (applied to both convolutional and fully connected layers), L2 regularization on fully connected layer weights, and early stopping are used to prevent overfitting.
