QUEEN (Query Understanding EnhancEd mechaNism) is a practical deep learning solution designed to address the challenge of large-scale query rewriting within e-commerce search engines. Its primary goal is to enhance the shopping experience by reformulating ambiguous customer input queries into more well-formed and precise queries, which is a critical function for modern search engines. The system incorporates query annotations, which are byproducts of existing query processing pipelines in most e-commerce search engines, to effectively model and understand ambiguous product search queries. An empirical study, based on 38.5 million anonymous product search queries, demonstrated that QUEEN significantly improves sentence-level recall by 6% compared to other state-of-the-art baselines.
