Domscribe provides AI coding agents with visual context of the frontend by mapping DOM elements to their exact source code locations.
Domscribe enhances AI coding agents by giving them the ability to "see" the frontend. It bridges the gap between an agent's code-reading capabilities and the visual representation of a UI. By running at build time, Domscribe assigns stable IDs to DOM elements, creating a manifest that maps each ID to its precise file, line, and column in the source code. This allows agents to instantly resolve UI elements and make accurate edits.
Beyond source mapping, Domscribe enables agents to query live DOM snapshots, component props, and state before and after making changes, providing full context for edits and verification. It supports various frameworks and bundlers, integrates with multiple AI coding agents via the MCP protocol, and ensures zero production impact by stripping its components from production builds. Users can also click UI elements to describe desired changes in natural language, which Domscribe translates into source-level edits for the agent.
Key Features
- Build-time stable IDs for DOM elements
- Deep runtime capture of live props, state, and DOM snapshots
- Bidirectional source-to-DOM and DOM-to-source querying
- Framework-agnostic (React, Vue, Next.js, Nuxt)
- Bundler-agnostic (Vite, Webpack, Turbopack)
- PII redaction for sensitive data
- Annotations stored in local repository
- Real-time feedback via WebSocket relay
Pros
- Provides AI agents with precise UI context, reducing errors
- Offers stable IDs for elements, robust against HMR and fast refresh
- Captures deep runtime context including props and state, not just HTML
- Works with multiple popular frontend frameworks and bundlers
- Fully local operation with zero cloud dependency
- Open source with an MIT license
Cons
- Requires integration with an MCP-compatible AI agent
- Setup involves adding a bundler plugin and agent plugin
- Primarily focused on frontend development workflows
- Relies on specific framework adapters for deep runtime capture
- No direct mention of support for non-JSX/Vue templating languages
Use Cases
- Fixing UI bugs with AI agents
- Implementing UI changes described in natural language
- Verifying AI agent edits against live DOM and component state
- Providing visual context to AI agents for frontend refactoring
Best For
- Frontend developers using AI coding agents
- Teams building complex UIs with AI assistance
- Developers seeking to improve AI agent accuracy in UI changes
- Open-source contributors to AI development tools
