CRFsuite is a fast, open-source implementation of Conditional Random Fields (CRFs) for labeling sequential data, offering various training methods.

CRFsuite is a software library that provides a fast implementation of Conditional Random Fields (CRFs), a statistical modeling method often used for structured prediction tasks like sequence labeling. Its primary goal is to enable quick training and tagging of CRF models. The software supports a simple data format, allowing users to define an arbitrary number of features for each item in a sequence. It incorporates several state-of-the-art training algorithms, including Limited-memory BFGS (L-BFGS), Orthant-Wise Limited-memory Quasi-Newton (OWL-QN), Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD), Averaged Perceptron, Passive Aggressive, and Adaptive Regularization Of Weight Vector (AROW. CRFsuite also includes performance evaluation capabilities, outputting precision, recall, and F1 scores on test data. It uses an efficient file format (CQDB) for storing and accessing CRF models, ensuring quick startup for taggers and fast feature weight retrieval. CRFsuite offers a C++ API and SWIG interfaces for other languages like Python, making it accessible for developers. It is distributed under the modified BSD license, making it suitable for both academic and commercial use.
